REVIEW, to view again! As a teacher, you get on a roll as you
present a lesson. Youre really ginning... youre in
the groove. But how do you know if youre conveying the
outcomes of the lesson?
You dont unless you have your students tell you with a
timely review. A major mistake teachers make is they fail to
conduct student-centered
reviews.
Most teachers review, but the teacher reviews by saying the same
thing, the same way... using the same words. Reviewing in this
manner is, to say the least, boring and ineffective because the
student is a passive participant.
Stop conducting the you-review. Conduct student-centered
reviews that provide you with the feedback you need to see if
you have communicated and your students have learned the lesson.

Start increasing your effectiveness today
by changing how you review.
Dont review what youve already said in the same way.
Get your students to review by asking questions that relate to
what has been presented. The key is to conduct a student-centered
review every ten minutes to increase recall as much as 40%.
It's called the 10/2 Review...
Instruction for 10 minutes, then students lead the review for
2!
Catchy isn't it? 10/2 Review.
One of the statements I love to use in a review session is Please repeat,
in own words, what I just said.
That develops thinking and application skills in the student.
The benefits of constant student-centered review are numerous.
Your students feel a part of the lesson when they review. Their
attention is focused on the lesson because they know at any moment they could lead the
review. You have the opportunity
to provide the reviewer with positive praise. As an added bonus...
you are constantly monitoring your students level of comprehension.
You are receiving the essential ingredient for a successful lesson...
feedback!
Because review means to view again, you can determine whether
you and your students are hearing and seeing the same thing.
When you both hear and see the same thing, lesson successes are
increased dramatically.
Remember
this... a student-centered 10/2 review increases retention by
as much as 40%... Wow!
Think about
this... Your students either get it or they don't. With a 10/2
review, you help insure they "get it"...!
