#27 Missing
the
Mission...
Think about what you do each day at school. Thinking? Good!
How GOOD do you feel as you leave
school at the end of the day?
Real Good?
Some Good? No Good?
If you feel like youve lost your luster and your drive
isnt alive, ask yourself this Blockbuster question:
Whats my mission?
This simple question carries awesome importance. Making a difference
in the lives of those students you touch each day is what teaching
is all about!
When you know your mission, everything you do each day has meaning
and purpose, and you feel a tremendous sense of satisfaction. You feel real good
about you and what you do!
Yet most teachers cant answer the simple, important question:
Whats
my mission?
More specifically... What do I want from my job as a teacher?
Think
about this one a long time before you move on!!! Thinking?
The vast majority of us don't have a clue what we want... so we don't have a clear and concise
mission... We don't know how to invest in our days. So we major
in minors. We feel empty when we major in minors.
If your mission is missing, thats a mistake. A big mistake!
To make your mission matter, you must stop and think about what
you do at school that makes
you Feel
Real Good!
In the final analysis, life is about giving. That's right, giving.
Not about getting! As a teacher, you are in the best position
on earth to give... give your love... talents, and skills.

Start by stopping and
asking... What
do I want?
WRITE
IT DOWN!!! Then,
the follow up question... What has to happen for me to GET what I want? WRITE IT DOWN!!! The GET I refer to is not to get stuff,
but to get the feelings associated with giving! Make sense? Hope
so!
Next...
Ask this, too!
What
one sentence would best summarize my contributions in life? If you could attend
your own funeral as a live and listening spectator what would
you want your eulogy to say? Morbid? No, it just helps you focus
your future... your "actions"... your mission!
Stop now
and write that one sentence. If you don't write it now... I mean right now,
you might as well forget it. Sorry, but it's true! When you wait...
you procrastinate! Write it. Please!
This sentence is the core for your lifes mission. Now rewrite
your mission as it pertains to teaching and giving. Incorporate
the main ideas found in your lifes mission statement when
writing your mission as a teacher.
Purpose gives you power, and a mission gives you purpose, direction
and a sense of power and control. Sounds like a cure all doesn't
it? Maybe!
Add purpose and passion to your life by investing the time and
energy to capture your mission on paper.
Write your mission statement on a 3 x 5 card and keep it handy. Each morning read your
mission statement, because you and your mission matter.
Add joy to your
job and your life... add a mission,
